Blunt Rochester Statement on Passing of Former Secretary of State Colin Powell

WILMINGTON, Del. — Today, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) issued the following statement on the passing of former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

“Today, America mourns the passing of a true statesman, leader, and patriot. From his brave and heroic service as a young man in Vietnam, to his commanding presence as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to his groundbreaking service as Secretary of State, it is no exaggeration to say that Colin Powell spent his entire life serving his country. His example is one we’d all be wise to follow — prioritizing his fellow citizens over himself and his country over his party. I’m praying for his family, friends, and colleagues whose moving tributes are a testament to the character and conviction of the man. The United States will forever owe a debt of gratitude to Colin Powell.”
